HRW Chief: Trump launched 'all-out assault' on human rights
Human Rights Watch executive director Philippe Bolopion says the Trump administration has launched an all-out assault on human rights both domestically and internationally, warning that Washington is ready to upend the rules-based world order.

In an interview with France 24, Human Rights Watch (HRW) executive director Philippe Bolopion stated that the Trump administration has "launched an all-out assault on human rights" at home and abroad. He specifically criticized the Fort Bliss ICE detention center in Texas, calling it a "human rights catastrophe."
Bolopion claimed that migrants there are "beaten up by masked agents for no reason" and held in "completely degrading circumstances." One detainee died under "very suspicious circumstances," he said, adding that HRW wants the site closed and investigated.
Beyond US borders, Bolopion pointed to sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has made dismantling the ICC "a goal of US foreign policy." Coupled with defunding the UN and withdrawing from the Human Rights Council, he argued that the US is ready to "upend the rules-based world order."
"Would-be dictators or actual dictators around the world are taking note," Bolopion warned, emphasizing that the Trump administration's actions encourage authoritarian regimes to ignore international norms and human rights.
