A conversation about AI safety

Once the call was underway, the discussion shifted to growing concerns about AI safety. Both men appeared to share a similar view, with Trump describing the fears as a "hoax." The president argued that the real beneficiaries of AI panic are China and "political people," and that the technology is too significant to be slowed down, calling it "bigger than the internet." During this exchange, Huang pointed out to Trump that the audience was applauding.

Whether Huang genuinely holds the same position remains unclear, but it's worth noting that Nvidia's business depends heavily on AI labs continuing to buy its chips, making it in the company's interest to downplay existential risk. Nvidia's stock is still up 33% over the past year, though it dipped slightly on the day of the call.

Apple's renewed reliance on Nvidia

The Apple device in Huang's hand carried its own significance. A decade after Apple stopped using Nvidia hardware in its products, the company now relies on Nvidia technology again to power part of its Apple Intelligence features.
