Hull City break transfer record to sign goalkeeper Tzolakis

Newly promoted Hull City have completed the signing of Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos for a fee that sets a new club record. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Neither club has officially confirmed the transfer fee, but it is understood to eclipse the £13 million Hull paid Tottenham Hotspur for Ryan Mason in 2016.

Tzolakis has spent his entire senior career with Olympiacos, making his debut in 2020. He went on to feature in 131 matches for the Greek giants, collecting eight major trophies along the way. That haul includes four Greek Super League titles and the 2023-24 UEFA Conference League.

Shortly after lifting the European trophy, he earned his first international cap for Greece in a match against Malta. Since then, he has been capped nine times by his country.

Speaking about the move, Tzolakis said he is ready for the next chapter in his career. He acknowledged his successful spell at Olympiacos but stressed that Hull City represents a different kind of challenge because the club are competing in the Premier League. He admitted that facing top-level players will be demanding, yet he feels prepared for the test. The goalkeeper vowed to give his all in every training session to help the team achieve its goals and expressed his excitement about moving to England, describing the Premier League as the ultimate stage.
