Two elderly residents in Ida-Virumaa lose over €40,000 to scammers
Two elderly people in Ida-Virumaa fell victim to scammers, losing a combined total of more than €40,000.

Scammers contacted a 75-year-old man by phone, posing as bank employees and investigators. They convinced the victim to hand over his bank card to a courier, after which €22,000 was withdrawn from his account. An 89-year-old man received a call at the end of April, allegedly from a hospital, asking him to provide test samples and personal data. Then someone posing as police called and persuaded him to give more than €20,000 to a courier. A few months later, the scammers asked the victim to withdraw additional funds and hand them over to a courier. Total losses amounted to €22,600.
