Enrolment continues for some programmes at Ida-Viru vocational school

The Ida-Viru Vocational Education Centre has begun the new academic year with more than 1,800 students, including 751 first-year students. Most groups have already been formed, but enrolment continues for a number of specialties.

According to Virve Linder, a representative of the centre who spoke to "Aktuaalne Kaamera," the total number of students is slightly lower than last year, but summer enrolment brought in almost fifty more students than the previous year. Nearly two hundred places remain open across various study programmes, though some programmes have only a handful of spots left. Enrolment will continue until all places are filled or until there is no longer enough time left to complete the required learning outcomes.

Language and studies

Students give mixed assessments of studying in Estonian. First-year student Varvara, who chose visual technology, says her Estonian is fairly good, though she sometimes struggles to respond, and stresses that practice is necessary since Estonian is the state language. Third-year student Edgar admits that learning Estonian is harder than it looks, but says additional courses have helped significantly.

Some students moved to Ida-Viru County specifically to study there. First-year student Anna, who chose the cleaning operator profession, relocated from Tallinn to Narva for her studies and future career. She also works as a children's swimming coach and hopes to develop swimming activities in Narva as well.

The Ida-Viru Vocational Education Centre operates in three towns – Jõhvi, Sillamäe and Narva.
