On Monday, September 7, two traffic accidents involving pedestrians were recorded in Estonia's Ida-Viru County.
Accident in Sillamäe
The first accident happened at 8:17 a.m. in Sillamäe, on Kesk Street near house No. 49. A 39-year-old man driving a Citroën Jumpy hit an 89-year-old pedestrian while reversing. The victim was taken to hospital, police reported on Tuesday.
Accident in Jõhvi
A second accident occurred at 12:09 p.m. in Jõhvi, on Rakvere Street near house No. 16. A 94-year-old driver of a Honda FR-V, while making a left turn, struck a 37-year-old woman who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. She was also taken to hospital. According to police, the traffic light showed green for both the driver and the pedestrian.
Nationwide situation
In total, nine traffic accidents with injuries were recorded across Estonia on Monday. One person died as a result of these accidents. Police also removed nine drivers showing signs of intoxication from behind the wheel.
