The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has concluded a pre-trial investigation and forwarded the criminal case to the prosecutor's office to initiate prosecution against three officers of the State Police's Riga Region Administration. They are accused of exceeding their official authority by using unjustified and disproportionate physical force, including repeatedly employing a stun gun on a detainee without legal grounds.

During the investigation, the IDB gathered evidence showing that the officers, while performing their duties, used physical force and a stun gun against a detainee multiple times without any legal basis. All three officers have been subjected to security measures: a prohibition from holding specific positions and an additional restriction—a ban on leaving the country.

This is the second instance where the IDB has sought charges against police officers for similar misconduct. Previously, in a separate case, the IDB proposed prosecuting a State Police officer for unlawfully using a stun gun on two different occasions. That investigation also found that the officer used the stun gun without legal justification and without prior warning to the detainees.
