Detective Series “Purva ēnas” to Be Filmed in Iecava, Traffic Restrictions Expected
Filming of the new mystery detective series “Purva ēnas” will take place in central Iecava on 8 and 9 November, bringing temporary restrictions on Edvarta Virzas and Raiņa streets. The series is based on a book by Gunts Tālers and is due to premiere on Latvian Television in autumn 2027.

On Sunday and Monday, 8 and 9 November, filming of the new mystery detective series “Purva ēnas” (“Shadows of the Bog”), by directors and brothers Lauris and Raitis Ābele, will take place in central Iecava, in Bauska municipality, Latvia. During the shoot, short-term restrictions on pedestrian and vehicle movement are planned on Edvarta Virzas and Raiņa streets, so residents should plan alternative routes.
What residents should know
From 7:00 on 8 November until 20:00 on 9 November, residents are asked not to park cars on the section of Edvarta Virzas Street between Baldones Street and Raiņa Street, or on Raiņa Street from Edvarta Virzas Street to the building at Raiņa iela 2. The request comes from the film studio Tritone Studio.
On Sunday, filming in these sections is planned from 7:30 to 18:30, and on Monday from 8:30 to 20:30. Traffic will be restricted only briefly during certain scenes. The restrictions will not apply to public transport or emergency vehicles. Because of special effects, street lighting may be switched on during the daytime.
The municipal police are ready to monitor public order and safety and, if needed, help organise traffic.
About the series
“Purva ēnas” is one of the new original series from Latvian public media. It is based on writer Gunts Tālers’ book “Nemierīgās dvēseles. Veļu laika stāsti” (“Restless Souls. Tales of the Time of the Spirits”), which weaves together mystical events, human destinies and secrets of the past.
The story centres on private detective Zintis Neibergs and clairvoyant Marija Vintere, who arrive in Abavciems, a village surrounded by the bogs of Kurzeme, to investigate the mysterious disappearance of people. It soon becomes clear that what seems an ordinary criminal case is tied to much older events and the dark past of the villagers. The story combines present-day events, mysticism and tragedies of the Second World War.
The series is made by directors Lauris and Raitis Ābele, with their brother Mārcis Ābele as cinematographer. Private detective Zintis Neibergs is played by actor Rūdolfs Apse, and actress Ieva Puķe plays Zelma, the owner of a guest house. Most scenes are shot at the “Vella dzirnavas” guest house in Zlēkas parish, with other locations across Latvia.
“Purva ēnas” will be a six-episode series, each episode about 52 minutes long. Its premiere on Latvian Television is planned for autumn 2027.
