Six vehicles collide in Iecava; rescuers free injured person
The State Fire and Rescue Service received 42 calls in 24 hours. In Iecava parish, six vehicles were involved in a crash, and rescuers used a hydraulic tool to free a truck occupant.

The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 42 calls between 6:30 on 6 October and 6:30 on 7 October. Of these, 15 concerned fires, 17 were rescue operations, and ten turned out to be false alarms.
Crash in Iecava parish
At about nine in the morning, rescuers were called to Iecava parish in Bauska municipality, where six vehicles had collided: four trucks, a cargo minibus and a passenger car. One person was freed from a truck with a hydraulic tool, lifted out on a spineboard and handed over to Emergency Medical Service crews. Another person got out of the truck unaided.
Inspecting the truck, crews found diesel leaking from the tank. The spilled fuel was collected with absorbent, and the remainder was pumped out with an electric pump. The passenger car was lifted out of a ditch with a manipulator, battery terminals were disconnected and the carriageway was cleared. Work at the scene ended at 12:25.
Other calls
At 10:24 rescuers went to Gavieze parish in South Kurzeme municipality, where a passenger car had crashed. Two people were freed and handed to medics. Work finished at 13:27.
Shortly after 1 p.m., in Dzirnavu Street in Riga, the roof of a single-storey warehouse and various materials burned over 20 m². A person evacuated before firefighters arrived.
At 14:44, in Vaive parish, Cēsis municipality, a mobile phone burned over 0.01 m² on the ground floor of a two-storey public building. The fire was out before VUGD arrived, and 57 people were evacuated.
At 15:27, in Budeskalnu Street in Salaspils, a single-storey house burned over 210 m². Two people evacuated before rescuers arrived. Work at this heightened-danger fire ended at 19:13.
Over the day, firefighters also tackled fires in an abandoned building, an annex, household items in a garage, a garden house, a power pole and cabinet, a brushwood pile, waste in a container and two passenger cars.
