Bears Reported in Imanta; Authorities Find No Trace
Over the weekend, reports emerged of a possible bear with cubs in the Imanta district of Riga. The Nature Conservation Agency inspected the area but did not spot the predators. Residents are urged to remain cautious.
The number of bears in Latvia is growing, and the likelihood of encountering them in urban environments is becoming increasingly realistic, according to the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP). Over the past weekend, residents of the Imanta district in Riga reported a possible sighting of a female bear with cubs.
Authorities surveyed the area but did not detect the predators. Despite this, DAP urges the public to exercise caution, especially in green spaces and near forests. Specialists note that bears generally avoid humans but may venture into urban areas in search of food.
