The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has concluded its pre-trial investigation and forwarded the criminal proceedings to the prosecutor's office, recommending criminal prosecution of a State Police officer from the Riga Regional Administration. The officer is accused of exceeding his official authority through the use of force.
According to the IDB, evidence gathered during the investigation shows that on two separate occasions while on duty, the officer used an electroshock device against detained individuals without any legal basis and without prior warning. This action is classified as an abuse of power.
Security measures have already been imposed on the officer: a prohibition from holding a specific position and a ban on leaving the country. These restrictions remain in effect pending the decision on whether to initiate criminal prosecution.
