Morning alcohol checks for police officers considered after tragedy in Priekule

Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (National Alliance) announced in an interview with Latvian Radio that the State Police plans to implement regular alcohol tests at the beginning of each workday. This measure comes in the wake of a tragedy in Priekule, aiming to enhance prevention and safety.
The checks would be mandatory particularly for officers who carry a weapon or operate a service vehicle during their duty. The minister emphasized that such measures will help mitigate potential risks and increase public trust in police work.
