Intoxicated man illegally flies drone near Rīga Castle
Military Police caught an intoxicated person on Saturday for illegally flying a drone near Rīga Castle in a restricted zone. He faces a fine of up to 725 euros.

Over the weekend, Military Police officers detained a man who was flying an unmanned aerial vehicle illegally near Rīga Castle while under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 15, in a no-fly zone for drones. Military Police identified the pilot after detecting an unauthorized flight. The man was sitting on a bench on 11 Novembra Embankment, near the statue of Great Kristaps. Two Military Police officers detained him. At the scene, a flight data and pilot information form was completed, a statement was obtained, and information was provided on drone operation restrictions and relevant regulations. According to the National Armed Forces, a warning sign about the no-fly zone is posted at the location. Violations can result in a warning or a fine of up to 725 euros for individuals. The exact penalty has not yet been determined and will be decided based on the nature of the violation, the person's background, financial status, and other factors. Because officers suspected alcohol intoxication, a municipal police patrol was also called to the scene.
