Latvia has potential to become key metal recovery hub in region
Latvia has the opportunity to become a significant metal recovery location, as available raw materials are mostly exported due to lack of processing capacity. Policy and regulatory changes are needed to realize this potential.
Latvia holds considerable potential to develop metal processing and emerge as a regional hub for metal recovery. Currently, the country has access to raw materials, but the majority is exported because local processing capacities are insufficient or non-existent. This limits Latvia's ability to capture greater value from metal scrap.
To tap into this opportunity, both government policies and regulatory adjustments are required to encourage the establishment and growth of processing facilities. Such changes would allow Latvia to utilize its resources more efficiently and reduce reliance on raw material exports. Developing local processing could generate new jobs and stimulate economic growth.
