Singer Ieva Sutugova reveals why she and her husband briefly split in their youth

On the show "Slavenības. Bez filtra", singer Ieva Sutugova told host Andris Bulis that her relationship with husband Jānis Miltiņš was not entirely straightforward — in their youth the couple briefly split up before eventually reuniting.

Sutugova said she believes in fate and now looks back on those events very differently than she did at the time. She explained that the period they spent apart allowed each of them to work through their own issues and grow as individuals. According to her, everything happened the way it was meant to, which is why the couple now functions as what she calls a "super team."

Family and career

Today Ieva Sutugova and Jānis Miltiņš are raising two children, and family has become a central part of the singer's daily life. This also shapes her professional choices — while the stage and her career remain important to her, she can no longer simply say "yes" to every offer.

During the conversation, Andris Bulis asked whether Sutugova would be willing to spend two months on Broadway if offered the chance. She answered honestly that, in theory, she would — but in practice it would be extremely complicated, since a long absence from her family would not be a simple decision.

Sutugova also acknowledged the particular demands of her profession, noting that performers need to stay constantly visible and active, since stepping back for too long risks being replaced by others. In her view, everyone in the profession must understand that no one is irreplaceable.
