Ukrainian drone with about 5 kg of explosives found in Estonia by man mowing lawn; it lay undetected for a week
A resident in the Estonian town of Rõuge discovered a drone with an explosive device weighing roughly five kilograms while mowing grass. According to Estonian Security Police, the drone likely crashed on June 3 during a Ukrainian attack on Russian territory.
Harris Puusepp, a bureau chief in Estonia’s Security Police, said the resident made the discovery on the evening of June 10. The man went out to mow grass and found the drone in tall grass; some parts were still in a nearby tree, suggesting it had fallen from there.
Puusepp indicated the drone probably came down on June 3, when Ukraine was attacking Russian territory. Estonian Air Force radars had detected drones at that time, and fighter jets were scrambled to intercept them. The radar contact disappeared near the spot where the wreckage was later found.
In recent months, drones have repeatedly entered the airspace of European countries, primarily Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. Defense officials in those countries say these are Ukrainian drones crossing the border because of Russian electronic warfare. Russia, in turn, has accused the Baltic states of allowing Ukrainian drones to use their airspace for strikes on Russian regions.
