Estonia's job vacancies drop by nearly 2,000 over the year
Estonian companies and institutions had 8,363 open positions in the second quarter, down 19.2% from a year earlier. Education and public administration had the most vacancies.
According to Estonia's Statistics Department, the country's companies, institutions and organizations had 8,363 vacant positions in the second quarter of this year. That marks a drop from the 10,344 vacancies recorded in the second quarter of 2025 — a decline of 1,981 positions, or 19.2%, over the year.
The decrease was much smaller compared to the first quarter of this year: in January–March, Estonia had 8,441 vacant positions, meaning the number fell by just 78, or 0.9%, over three months.
The share of unfilled positions also declined, from 1.7% in the second quarter of 2025 to 1.4% this year.
Where the vacancies are
The education sector had the most openings, with 1,558 vacancies, followed by public administration and defense with 1,274, wholesale and retail trade with 1,029, and manufacturing with 968.
In the second quarter, Estonia had 582,045 filled positions — 3,371 fewer than a year earlier, but 431 more than in the first quarter of this year. Manufacturing, trade and education accounted for most of the filled positions.
The combined total of vacant and filled positions in the second quarter reached 590,408, down 0.9% from the same period a year earlier. The largest concentration of vacant positions remains in Tallinn and Harju County.
