Estonia's first resident ambassador to Azerbaijan presents credentials in Baku
Tiina Nirk, Estonia's first resident ambassador to Azerbaijan, presented her credentials to President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday, with talks covering economic ties, green energy and support for Ukraine.
Estonia's first resident ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tiina Nirk, presented her credentials to President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Tuesday, the Estonian Foreign Ministry announced.
During their meeting, the two discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, with particular focus on economic ties, digital development, education and green energy. They also noted the value of continued high-level contacts, pointing to Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna's visit to Baku last October.
Both sides agreed on the need for sustained, comprehensive support for Ukraine. Nirk additionally updated Aliyev on Estonia's preparations to host the Ukraine Recovery Conference in January 2027.
"The most important task of diplomacy is to build bridges," Nirk said, adding that she takes up the post aiming to open new avenues for cooperation between Estonia and Azerbaijan and to strengthen ties where the two countries' interests align.
Nirk has been with Estonia's Foreign Ministry since 1990, most recently serving as director general of the Consular Department from 2019 to 2026.
Estonia and Azerbaijan, both former Soviet republics, established diplomatic relations on April 2, 1992. Estonia's embassy in Baku opened on March 1 this year, with an official inauguration ceremony set for October 20.
