Retail trade turnover in Estonia grew by 4 percent year on year in July, reaching a total of €982 million, according to figures released by Statistics Estonia.

The agency identified businesses selling automotive fuel as the main contributor to the increase. Johanna Linda Pihlak, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said grocery stores and stores selling manufactured goods also supported the growth, but fuel retailers made the largest contribution, with their turnover rising 7 percent year on year.

Pihlak explained that turnover figures for fuel retailers do not reflect fuel sales alone, but total business income, including revenue from food service and other goods and services sold at these locations.

After two consecutive months of decline, turnover at stores selling manufactured goods rose 3 percent year on year in July, matching the 3 percent growth recorded by grocery stores. Pihlak attributed the grocery sector's growth to a slowdown in food price increases.

Compared with June, monthly turnover increased 3 percent, or 1 percent once seasonal adjustments are applied. Over the first seven months of 2026, retail turnover was up 4 percent compared with the same period last year.

The report was compiled by Statistics Estonia on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, based on data from the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.
