In May 2026, fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport in Estonia were 19.4% higher than in the same month last year, according to Eurostat data. Although this increase is slightly below the EU average of 20.7%, Estonian motorists are still facing significantly higher costs at the pump compared to last spring.

Price hikes were recorded across all EU member states. The highest annual increases were observed in Bulgaria (+33.9%), Luxembourg (+32.2%), Lithuania (+30.8%), and Romania (+30.4%). The smallest rise was in Hungary, at just 3.5%.

However, May brought some good news for Estonian drivers. Compared to April, diesel prices in the country dropped by 8.4%, one of the sharpest monthly declines in the European Union. Only Germany (-11.9%) and Greece (-8.5%) saw larger decreases.

Across the EU, diesel was 29% more expensive than a year ago, while petrol was up 16.2%. On a monthly basis, however, the trends diverged: diesel prices fell by an average of 5.8% across the bloc, while petrol edged up by 0.8%.
