Estonia Sees Tourist Boost in May

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments in Estonia served over 320,000 tourists in May 2026, a 5% increase compared to May 2025.

Estonia's tourism sector experienced a notable uptick in May, with accommodation establishments hosting 320,300 tourists – 5% more than in May 2025. The number of foreign tourists rose by 9%, while the number of domestic tourists remained unchanged.

Of the total, 185,100 were foreign tourists and 135,100 were domestic. Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that overnight stays also increased. In May, there were approximately 583,600 overnight stays, up 6% from May 2025.

Foreign tourists accounted for over 362,100 nights, while domestic tourists contributed nearly 221,500 nights. The number of nights spent by foreign tourists increased by 10%, while domestic nights stayed the same.

Most foreign tourists stayed in Tallinn (71%), followed by Pärnu (10%) and Tartu (6%). 77% of foreign and 68% of domestic tourists were on holiday.

The average cost per guest night was €54, unchanged from May 2025. Compared to pre-pandemic levels in May 2019, the number of tourists and overnight stays in May this year was 1% lower.
