Estonia: AI could help avoid disputes between neighbors
An episode of the ETV+ program 'Your Truth' airing September 28 will address neighbor conflicts, with an apartment association representative suggesting artificial intelligence could prevent many such disputes.
Estonia's Russian-language channel ETV+ will air an episode of the program 'Your Truth' titled 'Hello, Neighbors!' on September 28 at 20:30, hosted by Jelena Solomina. The episode focuses on conflicts between neighbors — what to do when living next to noisy or difficult neighbors becomes a trial, where to seek help, and whether offenders can be held accountable.
Technology as a solution
Maksim Buchenkov, who represents several apartment associations, took part in the program and expressed confidence that many neighbor conflicts today could be avoided through the use of modern technology. He explained that when people face a problem, they typically turn to an association chairman or an acquaintance for advice, which makes the dispute more substantive and professional, but the parties still often fail to reach agreement. An alternative, he suggested, is consulting artificial intelligence, which can point out weaknesses in a person's position and the potential consequences of further action.
An example from the studio
As an illustration, Buchenkov cited a story shared during the program about a years-long dispute between neighbors over a property boundary. According to documents, one neighbor was entitled to roughly 50 additional square meters of land, and demanded that a fence be moved, but formally re-registering the land proved too costly. The dispute was never resolved, and the neighbors' relationship was damaged. Buchenkov noted that a properly trained AI could have immediately explained the necessary steps and their costs, which might have prevented the problem from arising in the first place.
