Estonia warns of hallucinations, vomiting and tremors after using CBCX 60%

Estonia's Poison Information Centre and the National Institute for Health Development have issued a warning about a product called CBCX 60%, sold at the CBDItaly shop in Tallinn's Old Town. Since late August, several calls have come in from young people who became seriously ill after using the product.

Those affected reported hallucinations, confusion, vomiting, severe dizziness, dilated pupils, and prolonged disturbances of well-being and consciousness. In one case, a minor and two friends reportedly smoked a hand-rolled cigarette believed to contain cannabidiol (CBD). Afterward, all three developed health problems, including impaired consciousness, severe vomiting and tremors. In one instance, the disturbed consciousness lasted more than 36 hours.

The Poison Information Centre stressed that the exact composition of the product and its active substances remain unknown, and there is currently no basis to assume it contains only CBD.

Police investigating composition

Police are working to determine exactly what substances CBCX 60% contains. Artur Kamnerov, head of the narcotics and organized crime unit at the Northern Prefecture, said the cases have been reported to police, who are working to establish the substance precisely. Once expert analysis confirms the findings, police will be able to add the substance to the list of temporarily banned narcotic and psychotropic substances, restricting its spread even before the Minister of Social Affairs formally adds it to the permanent banned list.

Kamnerov explained that cannabidiol itself is not a narcotic or psychotropic substance, and hemp products containing it are legal in Estonia as long as they do not contain the psychoactive substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or its content does not exceed the permitted limit of 0.3%. CBD products may only be purchased by people aged 18 and over. Since last year, police have had the authority to temporarily add new substances to the banned list, a measure introduced because establishing a permanent ban takes time, requiring various studies and assessments. The temporary ban allows police and other state agencies to respond faster to new dangerous substances appearing on the market.

The Institute for Health Development reminded the public that when using psychoactive products of unknown composition, it is impossible to determine their exact makeup and effects based solely on the product name or packaging information. Anyone who has used CBCX 60% and experiences symptoms of poisoning should call the Poison Information Centre at 16662 and follow the instructions given. In cases of impaired consciousness, seizures, breathing difficulties, or other serious health problems, people should call 112 immediately.
