Estonia's exports and imports up 15% in June, trade deficit reaches €413 million
Estonia's goods exports and imports both grew 15 percent year-on-year in June, though imports continued to outpace exports, leaving a trade deficit of €413 million. Latvia remained among Estonia's top partners on both sides of the trade.
Statistics Estonia reported that the country's exports and imports of goods each rose by 15 percent year-on-year in June. Exports reached close to €1.7 billion, while imports totaled nearly €2.1 billion, leaving a trade deficit of €413 million for the month.
Over the first half of 2026, exports grew by 8 percent and imports by 7 percent, reaching almost €10.1 billion and €12 billion respectively. Statistics Estonia's foreign trade expert Evelin Puura noted that growth was more modest in the first quarter, at 4 percent, before accelerating in the second quarter to 13 percent for exports and 11 percent for imports.
Key goods and partners
Over the first six months of the year, Estonia's leading exports were electrical equipment along with agricultural products and food preparations, while its main imports were electrical equipment and transport equipment. Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden were the top export destinations, while Finland, Germany and Latvia led on the import side.
In June, exports rose fastest to the Netherlands and Finland, driven by higher volumes of mineral products including natural gas and shale fuel oil. Goods of Estonian origin made up 64 percent of total exports, growing 15 percent, with the strongest gains in electrical equipment, base metal products and mineral products.
On the import side, deliveries from the Netherlands, Finland and Latvia increased the most. Mineral product imports jumped 86 percent and electrical equipment imports rose 29 percent. Latvia was a significant supplier of food preparations to Estonia, while mineral products mainly came from Finland and transport equipment from Germany.
