A personal exhibition titled “Architect Miia Masso. In Five Acts” has opened on the upper floor of the Estonian Museum of Architecture. The exhibition covers the architect’s creative journey, which spans more than half a century and is equally divided: 27 years during the Soviet period and 27 years after Estonia regained independence.

Among the buildings designed by Masso are apartment blocks, private houses, and numerous prominent public buildings. The organizers highlight the so-called “Masso house” as one of the best examples of a Soviet standard project, selected through an architectural competition.

Curator Siim Tanel Tõnisson noted that this standard apartment building was the highest quality of its time. It consists of five sections that can be combined and adapted to specific conditions, creating more diverse spaces. Additionally, all apartment partitions are non-load-bearing, preventing sound transmission between units. Masso also introduced the concept of “clean” and “dirty” zones: areas for walking in shoes and barefoot must not overlap, simplifying cleaning.

The exhibition is open until August 23.
