Siim-Sander Vene, captain of Estonia's national basketball team, has signed with Derthona Basket, a club competing in Italy's top division, ahead of the upcoming season.

Derthona head coach Mario Fioretti welcomed the signing, saying the forward would bring experience, speed and strong basketball understanding to the squad. He expressed hope that Vene would settle in quickly and contribute both in training and in the team's opening preseason matches.

The 35-year-old joins Derthona after leaving Lithuanian club Šiauliai. He previously spent five seasons in Italy, playing for Pallacanestro Varese between 2017 and 2022.

At Derthona, Vene will reunite with fellow Estonian Joonas Riismaa, who has been part of the club's roster since last season.

Derthona finished fifth in last season's Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) regular season standings but were eliminated in the quarterfinals, losing the series 3-2 to Reyer Venezia.

The new LBA season is set to begin on September 27. In addition to the domestic league, Derthona will also take part in the FIBA Europe Cup, European basketball's second-tier club competition, this season.
