Estonian basketball team crushes Slovenia by 31 points at home in World Cup qualifier

Estonia's men's basketball team convincingly defeated Slovenia 93-62 at home on Friday in a 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifier, securing their third win in five games.

The Estonian national basketball team dominated Slovenia 93-62 (22-16, 24-15, 27-20, 20-11) at the Unibet Arena in Tallinn on Friday, July 3, in a 2027 FIBA World Cup qualification match.

Estonia started strong and led by 15 points at halftime. The hosts continued to control the game in the second half, extending their lead to 31 points.

Stefan Vaaks led the scoring with 20 points, while Artur Kononchuk added 19 points for Estonia. The game was attended by 6,958 spectators.

Estonia had previously beaten Slovenia away by a single point, 94-93. For this home game, Estonia was without Kristian Kullamäe and Henry Drell, but they welcomed Mike-Kalev Kotsar to the lineup. Slovenia was again missing NBA star Luka Dončić.

After five rounds, both Estonia and Slovenia have three wins each. In the other group match, Sweden defeated the Czech Republic 87-76 at home, leaving both with two wins.

The final round of the first group stage will take place on Monday, July 6, when Estonia will face the Czech Republic away. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next stage of qualification. The World Cup is scheduled for August and September 2027 in Qatar.
