Estonia's basketball offense falters in World Cup qualifying defeat to Hungary

Estonia's men's basketball team fell to an away defeat against Hungary, 67:85, in a FIBA World Cup qualifying match, marking their fourth loss in seven games. The result was shaped largely by a stalled offense in the second half.

Estonia fielded Henri Drell, who wore a protective mask after taking a blow to the nose in a recent friendly against Lithuania. The team was missing guard Martin Paasoja, sidelined by an upper respiratory infection, while Kasper Suurorg played despite an elbow issue from an awkward training fall, finishing with 10 points.

Estonia opened strong, leading 14:13 after the first quarter and briefly extending the margin to five points (21:16) in the second. Hungary then equalized and took a 37:34 lead into halftime. Estonia clawed back to tie the score at 47:47 in the third quarter, but the hosts answered with an 8:0 run and carried a 63:56 lead into the fourth.

The anticipated comeback never materialized, as Estonia's offense stalled further in the final period. The visitors committed 19 turnovers, five more than Hungary, and lost the rebounding battle 31:35, including five offensive rebounds to Hungary's ten.

Kristian Kullamäe led Estonia's scoring with 26 points, with Suurorg the only other player in double figures. Drell committed five turnovers. For Hungary, Zoltan Perl scored 22 points and Nate Reuvers added 18.
