Henrijs Vēsārs, a 22-year-old Estonian basketball player, made history by becoming only the second Estonian selected in the NBA draft. The Los Angeles Clippers chose him in the second round with the 52nd overall pick, but promptly traded him to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal.
Vēsārs follows in the footsteps of Martin Müürsepp, who was the first Estonian drafted in 1996. Last season, Vēsārs played for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in the NCAA, averaging 17 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Prior to that, he spent two full seasons with the Arizona Wildcats.
The Clippers acquired French center Narcis Ngoju (57th pick) and cash considerations from the Hawks, as well as forward Nick Martinelli (55th pick) from the Houston Rockets. The Rockets received cash from the Clippers. In the first round, the Washington Wizards selected forward Aniset Dibanca with the first overall pick.
