Estonian Academy of Security Sciences welcomes record number of new students
A record 440 first-year students began studies at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences last week, out of more than 1,480 applicants, as the school also starts preparing for its 35th anniversary.
The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences started the new academic year last week with a record 440 first-year students, the largest intake in the institution's history. More than 1,480 people had applied for admission this year.
The academy trains future rescuers and emergency response coordinators, police and border guard officers, prison staff, tax and customs officials, as well as researchers and experts in internal security.
Ceremony in Tallinn
The academic year officially began on Friday with a ceremony at the flag square of the academy's Tallinn campus. Following tradition, the rector presented each first-year student with a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Estonia.
The ceremonial formation was led by Kristian Jaani, director of the academy's Police and Border Guard College and a former minister of the interior. The Tallinn Police Orchestra provided the musical programme for the event.
Alongside the start of the new academic year, the academy has also begun preparations to mark its upcoming 35th anniversary.
