Estonian-American producer umru to headline Tallinn club MOD on Saturday
New York-based producer and DJ umru, who has collaborated with Charli XCX and Tommy Cash, will headline Tallinn's club MOD this Saturday. His mother is Estonian-born artist Jaanika Peerna.

Umru Rothenberg, a New York-based producer and DJ who performs as umru, will headline the club MOD in Tallinn, Estonia's capital, this Saturday. The artist has Estonian and American roots, and his collaborators include British pop singer Charli XCX and Estonian rapper Tommy Cash. The show also marks a return to a country where he lived for a year as a child.
Early career
Born in Brooklyn, Rothenberg began making music as a teenager and uploaded his early tracks to SoundCloud. His work drew the attention of A.G. Cook, founder of the influential label PC Music, who invited him to contribute to Charli XCX's 2017 song "I Got It". Umru was just 18 at the time.
The collaboration helped launch his international career. It was followed by projects with experimental pop artists, including Laura Les of 100 Gecs, Dorian Electra, Empress Of and Caroline Polachek, as well as with Tommy Cash.
Shift toward club music
Umru made his name in the hyperpop scene but has increasingly moved toward club music. Last year he released the EP "Matter of Time" on the Scottish label LuckyMe, featuring producers Jacques Greene and Nikki Nair. He also put out the single "Poplife" with American musician Underscores.
At MOD, he will be joined by DJs Vaatab Jooksvalt and White Gloss.
Estonian ties
Speaking on the No Tags podcast last year, umru said he spent a year living and attending school in Estonia at the age of seven, but has otherwise lived his whole life in New York. His mother is Estonian-born artist Jaanika Peerna.
