Estonia national football team midfielder Markus Soomets has swapped Norway's top division for the second-highest tier in Denmark. The 26-year-old player has left Kristiansand club Start and joined Kolding.

According to the club's official website, Soomets has signed a three-year contract with Kolding, running until summer 2029.

Club and player background

Last season Kolding finished sixth in the Danish first division. The team began the new season with two draws and two losses, currently sitting 9th among 12 teams after four rounds.

Soomets had played for Start since summer 2025. Last season the club finished second in Norway's first division and earned promotion to the top flight. In the current Norwegian championship season, Soomets appeared in 11 matches — starting three times and coming on as a substitute eight times.

A product of Tartu's Santos academy, Soomets played in the youth team of Italy's Sampdoria and for Tartu's Tammeka before joining Tallinn's Flora in 2020. With Flora he became Estonian champion three times — in 2020, 2022 and 2023. In December 2024 he moved to the Dutch first division to play for Den Bosch, before later transferring to Start.

Soomets has made 24 appearances for the Estonian national team.
