Estonian youth film 'Morten' wins three awards in Italy

The debut feature film 'Morten' by director Ivan Pavlyuchkov won three awards at the Giffoni Film Festival for children and youth, held from July 17 to 25. The film received the Gryphon Award for Best Film in the 15+ age category, chosen by an international youth jury. Additionally, 'Morten' was awarded the special CONOU prize, given by the Italian National Consortium for the Collection, Treatment and Recycling of Waste Mineral Oils to films addressing sustainable development and positive change. The third award was the CGS Award, or the Youth Sociocultural Film Clubs 'Percorsi Creativi 2026' prize. The festival's audience and jury consist mainly of young people, and the film was recognized as the best in its category by viewers of the same generation, whose experiences of self-discovery, belonging, and self-preservation are reflected in the film. During a post-screening discussion, young viewers praised the film's calm yet captivating rhythm, the fairytale-like atmosphere of the relationship between Morten and Emily, and the protagonist's multifaceted nature. They also appreciated the fresh approach that avoids clichés common in youth films. 'Morten' will be released in Estonian cinemas on September 11.
