Estonia's EKRE adopts 2027 election platform promising cheaper energy and food

The Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) presented and adopted its platform in Tartu on Sunday ahead of the election scheduled for March 2027. The party promises voters cheaper energy and lower food prices.

In its statement, EKRE said Estonia can hope for a better future if the right choices are made. It claims that after six years of liberal rule the state and its people are in a poor position, citing a low birth rate, corruption, an economic downturn and difficulty making ends meet. The party also argues that immigration is excessive and threatens the position of Estonians in their own country, and that constitutional rights such as freedom of speech and the inviolability of private property are being violated. These are the party's own claims, not independently verified.

Taxes and incomes

To lower energy and food costs, the EKRE council plans to cut consumption taxes, including excise duties and value-added tax (VAT), abolish the car tax and reduce the land tax. For higher wages and pensions, the party proposes stopping mass immigration, which it says pushes wages down. It also wants to reduce bureaucracy and introduce new benefits for families with children.

State budget

To balance the budget, EKRE says it will end what it calls corrupt and wasteful ideological projects. These include halting construction of the Rail Baltica railway project, subsidies for wind and solar energy, aid to Ukraine, and funding for non-governmental organisations that the party says promote extremist ideologies. The party says the state budget contains well over a billion euros in spending that should not be there.

Defence

On national defence, EKRE stressed the need to hold people accountable for scandals in the sector. It demands that the missing millions be recovered and redirected to real defence, and that those responsible for the biggest corruption scandal in Estonia's defence sector face genuine accountability.

The next election in Estonia will take place in March 2027.
