The leaders of Estonia's Social Democratic Party and Isamaa have described the death of Siim Kallas as a great loss. Public figures linked to the Centre Party and Eesti 200 also commented on his passing.

Social Democratic Party leader Lauri Läänemets wrote on social media that a correctly aligned inner compass is what makes a political leader, adding that Kallas always knew what kind of state he wanted to see. According to Läänemets, this gave Kallas the courage to defend his views even when they were unpopular but necessary. Läänemets noted that although he and Kallas stood on opposite sides ideologically, this never stopped Kallas from recognizing opportunities for cooperation — he could praise someone's work while still noting he held a different view, and could speak sharply when needed while remaining polite.

A political legacy

Isamaa chairman Urmas Reinsalu said Siim Kallas was one of the most influential leaders shaping Estonia's path over an entire generation. Reinsalu wrote that Kallas's legacy as an economist, politician and public figure will continue to accompany Estonia today, noting that conversations with him always went beyond current events into history and ideas.

Centre Party member, public relations specialist and former minister Jaanek Mägi wrote that Kallas was a true treasure of his generation — a passionate man and inspiration who taught him more about political work than anyone else. Mägi also recalled Kallas's words that a person cannot choose when to be born or when to die, but can choose what happens in between.

Eesti 200 council member Ilmar Raag called Kallas one of the last of the greats, noting that Kallas belonged to a generation when politics still had intellectuals in its ranks.
