Estonia's number one tennis player Mark Lajal (ATP no. 152) has been eliminated from the first round of US Open qualifying. He lost in three sets, 6:4, 3:6, 3:6, to 16-year-old American Jordan Lee, who is ranked only 1774th in the world. The match lasted two hours and 16 minutes.

The young American received a wild card from tournament organizers to enter qualifying. His low world ranking reflects the fact that players his age are unable to compete in many adult tournaments over the course of a year.

Glinka to face Spaniard next

Estonia's second-ranked player, Daniil Glinka (ATP no. 156), will play his first qualifying match on Tuesday. His opponent will be Spain's Pedro Martinez (ATP no. 148), who defeated Glinka in the semifinal of the Kingston tournament not long ago.

To reach the main draw, players must win three rounds of qualifying.
