Estonian police are handling an increasing number of calls related to potential bomb threats. Data from the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) shows that over 100 such callouts were registered in the past two years, with 83 already recorded in the first five months of this year. Many cases originate from items left unattended in public spaces.

Last week in Tallinn's Kesklinn district, an unattended suitcase at a bus stop triggered a bomb scare. Bomb disposal experts determined it contained only clothes. Lennart Kams, head of the patrol service at the Lääne-Harju Police Station, emphasized that every report is taken seriously.

"We encourage people to report suspicious bags and suitcases left without an owner. In such cases, patrol officers and Rescue Board bomb disposal experts can respond quickly, close traffic if necessary, establish a perimeter and check for any possible danger," Kams said. He also urged everyone to keep an eye on their belongings and not to leave large waste next to public bins.

These incidents often affect traffic and public transport. Kaido Padar, a member of the management board of Tallinn Transport, noted that any unusual incidents impact public transport. If police or rescue services close a road, it affects traffic. An agreement with authorities allows public transport to pass through where possible, and the control center is informed in larger incidents. If needed, a vehicle can be removed from service so people don't have to wait outside. Padar said drivers' primary duty is to ensure passenger safety—stopping the vehicle in a safe place, opening doors, and letting people out.
