Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal has arrived in Kyiv for a visit that includes a meeting between leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries and Ukraine, as well as events marking Ukraine's State Flag Day.

Writing on Facebook, Michal said he had arrived in Kyiv together with his NB8 colleagues to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The talks are expected to cover the situation on the battlefield, Ukraine's needs, and how allies can best support the country in the coming months.

Michal stressed that Ukraine must have everything it needs to defend itself, win the war and determine its own future. He noted that Ukraine marks its State Flag Day on August 23, drawing a symbolic parallel: 35 years ago Estonia restored its independence while Ukraine declared its own. Both countries thereby gained the right to shape their own future, a right Ukraine is now defending on the battlefield.

As part of the visit, Michal will also meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi, to discuss bilateral relations and preparations for the Ukraine recovery conference set to take place in Tallinn next January.

Following the meeting of NB8 and Ukrainian leaders, heads of state and government are expected to hold a joint press conference.
