Estonian prosecutors and prison back early release for Amid Magerramov
Harju County Court in Estonia is considering early release for Amid Magerramov, sentenced to ten years for drug offences and leading a criminal group. Prosecutors and the prison support him serving the rest of his sentence under criminal supervision, with a ruling due on 16 October.

Harju County Court in Estonia is weighing the early release of Amid Magerramov, who was sentenced to ten years in prison for drug offences and for leading a criminal group. Prosecutors and the prison both support him continuing his sentence under criminal supervision, which means release from prison on certain conditions.
The court's press office told Rus.ERR, the Russian-language portal of Estonian public broadcaster ERR, that the court will announce its decision on 16 October.
Arrest and conviction in the US
Magerramov was detained in Tallinn on 4 September 2018 at the request of US authorities. He was extradited to the United States in 2019, where in 2021 he was sentenced to ten years in prison for smuggling fentanyl and carfentanil. He later returned to Estonia to serve his sentence.
Case over leading a criminal group
In 2023, Magerramov was charged with leading an Azerbaijani criminal group. In that case he received an additional sentence of six years and six months. It was not added to his main sentence, because the main term is longer.
In previous years, Estonian courts have denied Amid Magerramov early release.
