Several records set at Estonian Athletics Championships in Pärnu
The Estonian Athletics Championships held in Pärnu over the weekend featured multiple record-breaking performances, including a new national U20 and U23 record in pole vault.
Pole vault highlights
Henry Apri emerged as one of the standout athletes at the Estonian Athletics Championships in Pärnu, winning the pole vault with a height of 5.66 meters. That mark is the second best in Estonian athletics history and a new national record for the under-20 and under-23 age groups.
In the women's competition, defending favorite Marleen Mülla claimed gold with 4.55 meters – a championship record and her personal best on European soil. She also attempted to break the Estonian record of 5.65 meters but was unsuccessful this time.
Hurdles and sprints
Viola Hambidge set a championship record in the 400-meter hurdles, timing 56.16 seconds. She missed her own Estonian record by just 0.16 seconds.
Local athlete Henry Saj from Pärnu was another hero of the championships, winning gold in the 100 meters on Saturday and adding the 200-meter title on Sunday.
What's next
The next major event for Estonia's top track and field athletes will be the European Championships in Birmingham, England, from August 10 to 16. The final composition of the Estonian team for that competition will be announced in the near future.
