Estonian men's épée team ends World Championship run in second round
Estonia's men's épée fencing team exited the World Championships in Hong Kong in the round of 16, after a first-round win over Singapore and a loss to France.
The Estonian men's épée team has concluded its participation in the team event at the World Championships in Hong Kong, stopping in the round of 16.
In the first round, Estonia convincingly defeated Singapore 45:23. The team consisted of Sten Priinits, Kasper Tafenau, Oliver Laasik, and Markus Salm. As early as the third micro-match, Oliver Laasik beat Ze Cher Pua 7:2, building a lead that only grew. Kasper Tafenau was particularly effective, winning both his bouts with a combined score of 12:3.
However, in the round of 16, Estonia faced a much tougher challenge against France. The French team seized the initiative from the start and steadily increased their lead, securing a confident 43:31 victory. Oliver Laasik won the only micro-match for Estonia, but it was not enough to fight for a place in the quarterfinals.
