Estonian athlete Mia Mireia Uusorg claimed silver in the heptathlon at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, scoring 5,961 points.

Estonian multi-event athlete Mia Mireia Uusorg has won the silver medal in the heptathlon at the Under-20 World Athletics Championships taking place in Eugene, Oregon.
Across the seven disciplines — 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin, and 800 meters — Uusorg totaled 5,961 points, just 138 short of her U20 personal best, which also stands as the Estonian record. Finland's Enni Virjonen took gold with 6,214 points, while Switzerland's Anna Pfister claimed bronze.
Uusorg said she feared her chances were gone after a disappointing high jump, but managed to fight back over the remaining events. She had entered the championships hoping everything would go as planned, and while it didn't, she said things ultimately worked out in her favor.
Two days of competition
On the first day, Uusorg set a personal best of 13.71 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, cleared 1.63 meters in the high jump, improved her shot put best to 11.33 meters, and ran 24.27 in the 200 meters.
On the second day, she recorded 6.23 meters in the long jump, threw the javelin 45.30 meters, and lowered her 800-meter personal best to 2:13.90, sealing the silver medal. She said she was especially pleased with her shot put result, an event she had previously struggled with, as well as her 800-meter run, which she called her biggest success given the conditions.
Among other Estonian competitors, Annika Põlluaas finished 21st in the heptathlon with 4,616 points after failing to record a valid long jump. In the boys' events, Henri Apri qualified for the pole vault final by clearing 5.25 meters on his third attempt, while Martin Plak placed 17th with 4.95 meters. Estonia's mixed relay team did not advance to the final, finishing 18th in the heats with a time of 43.69 seconds. The championships conclude on Sunday.
