Drivers using the Daugavpils highway (A6) should expect slower traffic at the roadworks section in Ikšķile and allow extra travel time. This was reported by Latvijas Valsts ceļi, the company that manages Latvia's state roads, in comments to the news portal Delfi.

Restrictions in Ikšķile

A 50 km/h speed limit applies on the section, and a pedestrian crossing traffic light has been installed near the Ikšķile overpass. The carriageway towards Riga is closed, so traffic has been diverted onto the carriageway towards Ogre. As a result, the ramp to and from Skolas iela in Ikšķile is unavailable.

Two turnaround points have been set up for manoeuvres: on the Ogre side at the junction with Kadiķu iela, and on the Riga side near the parking areas beyond Ikšķile.

Roadworks across the country

The active road construction season continues, with works under way at 58 sections of the state road network. The biggest restrictions on main roads are:

  • A6 from Kalnišķi to Ļūbaste: speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h, about 20 minutes to pass through;
  • Liepāja highway (A9) from the Lielupe to the junction with the Jelgava–Tukums road (P98): up to three traffic-light sections, 50 and 70 km/h, about 20 minutes;
  • Vidzeme highway (A2) from Sigulda to Augšlīgatne: one traffic-light section, 50 and 70 km/h, 35 minutes.

The biggest restrictions on regional roads are:

  • Valdgale–Roja (P126), Valdemārpils to Rude: two temporary traffic lights, 50 and 70 km/h, 30 minutes;
  • Ilmāja–Priekule–Lithuanian border (P114), Priekule to the Lithuanian border: four traffic-light sections, 50 km/h, 35 minutes;
  • Bauska–Aizkraukle (P87), Ozolaine to Bārbele: one temporary traffic light, 30–60 km/h, 25 minutes;
  • Viļāni–Preiļi–Špoģi (P58), Preiļi to Raudauka: two traffic-light sections, 50 and 70 km/h, about 20 minutes.

Information on all current traffic restrictions on state roads is available on the Latvijas Valsts ceļi website.
