Longtime Latvian national volleyball player Romans Saušs ends professional career

Romans Saušs, who represented the Latvian national volleyball team since 2008 and was a key player for more than 15 years, has ended his professional career. He started his professional journey in 2006, joining the club "Rīga"/"Lāse-R", and later played for "Poliurs"/"Ozolnieki" before moving abroad.

During his career, Saušs played for 13 different teams in Finland, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Cyprus. He spent his final season with Famagusta's "Anorthosis" club.

In 2018, following a vote by teammates and a decision by the coaches, Saušs was appointed captain of the Latvian national team. That same year, in the European Silver League, he was among the top scorers, helping Latvia earn bronze medals; in the third-place match, he scored 15 points.

This summer, as the team prepared for the European Championship, Saušs was not included in the national squad. At the youth level, he also represented Latvia in beach volleyball.
