Classic induction hobs lose ground as smarter surfaces take over

Appliance makers are moving away from traditional round induction cooking zones toward surfaces that automatically detect a pot's shape and position. A new premium trend also hides induction modules beneath kitchen worktops.

Home appliance manufacturers are increasingly abandoning the classic induction hob design with clearly marked round cooking zones. According to the Polish outlet "DobrzeMieszkaj.pl," the newest generation of induction surfaces can automatically detect a pot's shape and position, eliminating the need to carefully align cookware within a fixed zone.

How the new surfaces work

This capability comes from technologies branded "FlexInduction" and "FlexZone." Dozens of small magnetic coils and sensors are built in beneath the glass surface, allowing the system to detect in real time when a pot is moved during cooking and redirect heat to its new location.

Induction hidden beneath worktops

Another innovation involves installing induction modules directly beneath kitchen worktops. Developers say this approach avoids a visible black glass panel, frames, or marked cooking zones on a kitchen island — once cooking is finished, the surface can again be used as an ordinary work area.

For now, these hidden induction modules remain mostly a premium-segment solution, but they point to a broader trend: large household appliances are becoming less visible and increasingly blending into kitchen interior design.
