Insta360 Luna Pro brings native 4K vertical video to pocket gimbal cameras
Insta360 has launched the $600 Luna Pro pocket gimbal camera, positioned as a rival to DJI's Osmo Pocket 4, with native 4K portrait-mode video as its standout feature.
Insta360 has released the Luna Pro, a $600 pocket-sized gimbal camera aimed squarely at competing with DJI's Osmo Pocket 4. The launch adds to a crowded summer lineup of pocket cameras that already includes the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P, Insta360's own Luna Ultra, and GoPro's Mission 1 Pro.
Specifications
The Luna Pro is built around a single 20mm Leica Summicron lens (f1.8) paired with a 1-inch sensor, supporting 8K video at 30 frames per second and 4K at up to 120 fps. It also offers Dolby Vision, 10-bit I-Log recording, and 37-megapixel still photos. The camera includes 47GB of expandable internal storage and a 1,550 mAh battery.
A key advantage: vertical 4K
Unlike other current gimbal cameras, including DJI's lineup and Insta360's own Luna Ultra, the Luna Pro can record native 4K resolution in vertical (9:16) mode, a format widely used for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts content. Other devices currently cap portrait-mode recording at 3K. On the Luna Pro, 4K portrait video is limited to 30 fps, while landscape mode supports up to 120 fps.
The camera also features a detachable front panel that doubles as a wireless remote and microphone, along with a software-enhanced 4x zoom that relies on digital processing beyond the native 2x range.
How it compares
Insta360 says the vertical 4K and enhanced zoom features are currently exclusive to the Luna Pro, though vertical 4K recording is expected to reach the Luna Ultra within the coming weeks. Compared with the similarly priced DJI Osmo Pocket 4, the Luna Pro offers more features overall, though DJI's camera is noted for stronger color depth and dynamic range.
