Apple has officially released iOS 27.2, an iPhone operating system update that adds more Siri and AI functions. Because CarPlay, the system shown on a car's infotainment screen, runs on the operating system of a connected iPhone, the update changes it as well. Engadget reports on the changes, citing 9to5Mac.

New Podcasts layout

In CarPlay, the Home tab of the Podcasts app now has two new sections: New Episodes and Continue Playing. The Up Next section has been removed entirely. The latest installments of followed shows are found under New Episodes, while Continue Playing lets users resume a show from where they stopped.

Siri improvements

As on the iPhone, Siri in CarPlay can now recall past conversations. A user can, for example, ask it to repeat earlier cafe recommendations if they cannot find the chat from last week.

In CarPlay, Siri can also draw on more sources for more detailed answers: voicemails, Safari history and Reading List, attendees of Calendar events and even photos attached in Messages.

Other changes

The update also includes a few minor changes. The Music app icon is no longer red but monochrome: white with a black music note, or black with a white note in dark mode.

Users on the CarPlay subreddit also report that after updating to iOS 27.2, their infotainment system no longer supports APTV, an app that lets them play video on the car screen.
