What Digital ID does
Apple's Digital ID feature lets users store a digital version of their passport in the Wallet app. Introduced in 2025 alongside iOS 26, it remains available in iOS 27, including its beta build. The feature cannot replace a physical passport, since it isn't valid for entering another country, but it can be used at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 US airports to make boarding flights easier.
An easy fix
Despite the alarming nature of a passport vanishing from the app, the fix is straightforward: simply re-add the passport to the Wallet app, and the Digital ID feature should work normally again.
