Essential gear for physically demanding hikes: What to bring
Every gram counts in strenuous hikes. iAuto.lv has compiled a list of compact, lightweight tools that can make a significant difference in comfort and safety outdoors.

For physically demanding and long hikes, everyone knows they need good shoes, a jacket, and a water bottle. However, there is specific, compact equipment that truly helps when covering large distances. iAuto.lv has gathered the most interesting additional items.
A drinking tube that attaches directly to a PET bottle is more hygienic and easier to clean than a traditional camelback. For making fire, a lighter or matches are much easier to use than a fire steel on shorter trips.
A multi-tool with a knife, saw, and pliers – where the pliers automatically return to their original position – is one of the most important items. For example, a model with these features costs around 24 euros. Also useful is a compact flashlight with a red light that can be clipped to clothing or a hat and rotated to any angle; it costs around 26 euros.
For resting, an insulating sitting pad keeps you dry and warm in any weather. A hook is a small but multi-purpose item. An emergency foil bivvy bag can serve as a quick shelter or insulation from the ground. A chemical heat pack that lasts up to 12 hours (around 15 euros) helps warm up if you are cold – it can be placed on the chest or at the feet.
Other useful items include a waterproof medicine container, elastic shock cords, a scarf that also serves as insulation, 20 meters of rope, glasses, and a moisture-, dust-, and shock-resistant power bank.
This gear is light and compact but can greatly improve comfort and safety on physically demanding hikes.
