Apple and Google have released their latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro, both offering upgraded cameras and expanded AI features but no compelling reason to switch ecosystems.
Apple and Google have rolled out their newest flagship smartphone generations — the iPhone 18 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro, respectively. Both devices come in two sizes, feature three rear cameras, OLED displays with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, and an expanding set of AI-powered tools.
Design and Displays
The Pixel keeps its recognizable full-width camera bar but now adds edge-to-edge glass and a more stable design when resting on a flat surface. The iPhone retains its aluminum unibody with a Ceramic Shield back and introduces two new color options: an icy blue called Glacier and a Burgundy shade. The smaller models weigh nearly the same, though the larger Pixel is roughly nine percent lighter than its iPhone counterpart. Screen sizes and brightness levels are broadly comparable between the two lines, despite differing measurement methods.
Cameras and AI
The Pixel 11 Pro leans heavily on AI, automatically adjusting lighting and detail while offering faster low-light capture and digital zoom up to 120x. The iPhone 18 Pro instead emphasizes manual control, introducing a variable-aperture main camera along with manual settings for shutter speed and white balance. On video, the iPhone offers more professional-grade tools, including high-resolution recording with extended dynamic range.
On the AI front, Google's Pixel offers a more mature feature set, including tools for cleaning up dictated text and automatically selecting the best photos from short video clips. Apple's new Siri, meanwhile, focuses on personalized assistance drawing on messages, email and photos, though it launches in beta and won't initially be available in the European Union.
Performance and Pricing
Both phones run new chips — Google's Tensor G6 and Apple's A20 Pro. Google claims more than 30 hours of battery life for both Pixel 11 Pro models, while Apple claims 24 to 30 hours depending on the model. Pricing is close: the Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099 versus $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro, while the larger models are priced equally at $1,299.
Ultimately, the choice largely comes down to which ecosystem a buyer already uses, as neither phone offers a strong enough reason to switch platforms.
